Tina Estrada and her San Jose State women’s soccer squad are on a roll. We discuss Estrada's story and the Spartans' recent successes. We also address the university's mental-health resources for student athletes.
Estrada's success
Hanson was Estrada's assistant coach for the San Jose State women's soccer program in 2017. Estrada has a similar history to Hanson. Estrada was an All American college soccer player and was also part of the U.S. Under-17 national team. At Santa Clara, Estrada was a three-time all-WCC forward, and also played in four NCAA tournaments. In 2015, Estrada was named NSCAA Assistant Coaching of the Year.

SJSU's recent success
Numerous players have been responsible for recent success in women's soccer at SJSU. Most notably, Dorthe Hoppius was named the team's MVP, but will not return to the Spartans for the 2018 season. Jamilecxth Becerra (sophomore) was named Mountain West Newcomer Award winner after scoring seven goals including five winning goals. Darriell F. Franklin was named MW defensive play of the Year and made the All-MW team.
New facilities have contributed to Spartans' recent success. Spartan Beach is a new addition to the campus. The Spartans have also added these facilities to their campus. Next year, they will open the Spartan Athletics Center.
Tina Estrada's professional career
Estrada has been serving as the interim head coach of the San Jose State women's soccer team for the past two months.
