FIFA is the FIFA member country for the United States national soccer team. The first team was formed in 1885. Its first international match was against Canada. This game was won by the United States 1-0. In 1934, the U.S. was finalists in the World Cup. It was again in the finals of the World Cup, but it did not play in Newark. The United States won the bronze and silver medals for men's soccer in the 1904 St. Louis Summer Olympics. It was organized by St. Rose Parish and Christian Brothers College. It was the first tournament to be held outside of Europe.
As a member of FIFA, the United States belongs to its regional federation, CONCACAF. CONCACAF regulates international soccer across North America. The United States Soccer Federation is a non-profit organization based in Chicago, Illinois. It is responsible for overseeing both amateur and professional soccer across the United States.

It has played in seven consecutive FIFA World Cups
The U.S. men’s soccer team was almost non-existent in international soccer until 1982. Despite the existence of the North American Soccer League in the 1960s & 1970s, it did not become a major force within global soccer. However, that didn't stop U.S. Soccer. The United States' first World Cup appearance was in 1982. After losing to Egypt in tiebreaker, they were 1-1-1.
The history of the U.S. soccer team is long and varied. U.S. soccer's debut at the World Cup was in 1990. The team reached the quarterfinals twice. Today, the team is a leading force in the sport and has hosted three World Cups.
It has hosted two FIFA Women's World Cups.
The Women's World Cup 1999 was held in the United States. It was moved from China, where it had been hosted for the first-time in 1994. The bid was approved and the U.S.S. Soccer team hosted the tournament. In addition to hosting the tournament, the US women's team won U.S. Cup '95, a tournament in which the team defeated Mexico 4-0 and tied Colombia. In addition, the women's team came in third, beating Canada 3-0 and earning all-star honors.
The US soccer team has hosted many other international soccer events including the Women's Olympic Games (Women's Olympic Games) and the Pan-American Games (Women's Olympic Games). The US women’s team has made huge strides since the 2014 Olympics. Their success at the World Cup has elevated their international reputation. Abby Wambach, Tobin Heath, Alex Morgan, Carli Lloyd, April Heinrichs, Hope Solo, Megan Rapinoe, and Megan Rapinoe are some of the most recognized names in women's soccer.

It has won four Olympic Gold Medals
Four Gold medals have been won by the United States soccer team in the history of Olympic soccer. Both the women's and men's soccer teams have won one gold medal and one silver. The first gold medal was won by the US soccer team in 1996. They defeated China by 2-1 in Atlanta. They won the second gold medal in Sydney, Australia, defeating Norway 2-0. They won three more consecutive games after that.
The women's national soccer team is a dominant team with a strong history. Canada lost the first semifinal match in Rio. They have won more golds medals but have not yet won any World Cups. Abby Wambach hasn't addressed retirement yet, but she has used her Olympic experience as motivation and an opportunity to make the team better than she found it.
