She confidently sent the penalty kick to the far right corner, beating USA goalkeeper AD Franch. This was Canada’s maiden win over the United States after more than twenty years.

Emily Sonnet's goal
Emily Sonnett, a United States woman's soccer player, is one of the best. She was a First-Team All-American two-time and the Most Outstanding Defense Player at 2014 NCAA Championships. She was named the 2015 ACC Defensive Player-of-the Year. She was also awarded the ESPNW Soccer Player-of-the Year award. After graduating from UVA, she entered the NWSL draft. She was the semifinalist of the 2016 NWSL Championship and scored her first pro-goal against the Western New York Flash. She eventually earned her first senior-level cap in the U.S.A and was an alternate at Rio Olympics.
Canada's energy
The Canada team displayed a lot of energy in the first half against the U.S. The two teams were tied 1-0 at the half. Canada's energy was high during the first half and it continued to be energetic as the game progressed. While the United States had more energy at the bench, Canada showed great determination and set the pace.
Emily Sonnet's penalty kick
Emily Sonnet's penalty shot broke a record that stood for 969 mins. She was able to take the penalty kick even with a cast on one arm. She scored her first international goal with the strike. Sonnett scored the goal in 34 minutes. Ashley Sanchez also scored in 34 minutes.
Canada's energy in second half
The second half of the US Women's National Team match with Canada saw the USWNT show some energy and aggression. They started to push forward with several half chances, including one from Lindsey Horan that was off-target. Canada's defense held firm and stood strong against US pressure. Canada continued to resist the US's pressure, and Alex Morgan nearly scored a goal.
