Varas’ USMNT U20 team includes a mix of top MLS talent, and European imports. All but one player has played in an U20 setup before, and a number of others are regular starters for MLS clubs. The squad is missing a center forward, though.
Revelations Cup
The U.S. Men's National Team, (USMNT), will start its Revelations Cup Tournament Mexico on Wednesday. The tournament will be a 10-day event that features four U-20 national teams of world-class quality. The tournament is designed to bring sports fans closer to some of today's brightest players and to help rewrite sporting history.
Varas and his squad are coming off a poor showing in their opening game of the Revelations Cup against Brazil. Varas was hired in December, and the squad only had a few training sessions prior to the competition. The squad failed to score one goal. Varas claimed that his players are up for the challenge, and are hard at work to improve.
FIFA U-20 World Cup
The FIFA U-20 World Cup for male football players is an annual tournament. FIFA organizes this tournament. It was first held by Tunisia in 1977. It was previously known as the FIFA World Youth Championship, but has since become a world-renowned event. Qualify from six youth championships to qualify for the tournament. The next stage will be decided by the two top teams in each group. The remaining four teams are eliminated.
Argentina is the winning team of the tournament with six victories. Their last title was in 2007 when they won the tournament at Canada. Other notable nations include Brazil, England, Ukraine, and Russia.
Olympic qualifying tournament under-23 players
Every four years, the Olympic qualifying tournament for players under 23 has been held. This tournament is open to players aged under 23 and is not part of the FIFA World Cup. Each nation is allowed three wild cards over the age limit. The United States was eliminated from the tournament three times in the last four years. They lost to El Salvador (Canada), and Mexico. But, the United States was not required to forfeit any of its Under-23 players as they were already playing for their senior national team.
In addition to Brazil, Mexico, and Canada, the U-23 team will face a team from CONCACAF in the group stage on March 18. Costa Rica will be the first opponent in the group on March 18th. The second game in the group stage is a knockout between the top 2 teams. Two winners from this round will go on to the finals, and they will face off in the knockout round.
Team USA vs Honduras u20
As they attempt to qualify for Pre-World Cup qualification, the Hondurans intend to capitalize on their home advantage. The Hondurans had a strong performance on the group stage and will look to build on that success in the CONCACAF U-20 qualifying rounds. The match will be played at the General Francisco Morazan Stadium also known as La Bombonerita.
Honduras beat Panama 2-1 in their last game. Marco Tulio Aceituno scored a brace in Honduras' 2-1 win over Panama. The United States, however, dominated that match from start to finish. The Hondurans will look to continue their winning ways and eliminate their opponents.
