Vlatko Andonovski & Pia Sundhage - Women's National team coach

Vlatko Andrénovski is the United States women’s national team's head coach. He is a former player and a Macedonian. He is the 2nd man to lead the team and the 1st since Pia Sundhage 2000. He has coaching experience for both men and women.

Andonovski became the first woman to coach the national women's soccer team.

Andonovski has a new look in the coaching of women's soccer. Andonovski fits Ellis' new coach/player model better than Ellis. Ellis' style does not resonate with his playstyle. He is a pioneer in the sport.

Andonovski was born in the former Yugoslavia and grew up in Skopje, the capital city of the Republic of North Macedonia. He spent his childhood watching and even playing soccer. He made it to the senior squad and went professional. After a career as a professional player in the United States, his focus shifted to coaching.

Andonovski has managed other teams, in addition to the USWNT. As a youth coach, one of his previous jobs was to assist with coaching. He was well-known to both players as well as scouts at FC Kansas City. His teams made the playoffs in '13 and '14. He was also a member of the Missouri Olympic Development Program.


He is the 2nd coach to directly go from coaching in the American professional league to coaching for the national team, following April Heinrichs' 2000 departure.

Er was a top-quality ambassador for the U.S. Women's National Team and a former player who won two U.S. Soccer Female Players of the Year Awards. She was also a professional player for Prato in Italy and Juventus. Many young players were helped by her. The USWNT won the silver at the 2000 Summer Olympics. They also won the FIFA Women's World Cup 2003 and the Olympic gold medal 2004. Her role has been crucial in developing the women's game abroad and in the United States.

Er was a former professional player in soccer, having played for the Wichita Wings (NPSL) from 2000-02. Later she went on to play for both the Kansas City Comets as well as the Philadelphia Kixx and the California Cougars. She was a MISL All-Star in two instances. After earning her Bachelor's degree at Park University in 2008, she went on to receive her Master's of Coaching Education with a soccer track at Ohio University in 2018. She currently lives in Kansas City, Missouri.

Pia Sundhage is a Swedish soccer manager and former player. At the age of 15, she made her debut on the Swedish national team and guided them to two Women's World Cups, as well the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. She was awarded 146 caps and scored seventy-one goals. She was also a sweeper-midfielder and a sweeper during her career.

Sundhage is an established coach in her homeland and has a better chance to lead the men's team than most women who made the move. In Sweden, 25 percent of her vote was for her, while 12 percent went to the next-ranked person. A renowned Swedish management expert has praised her.

Sundhage was a key member of the coaching staff for the Philadelphia Charge during their first two seasons in the WUSA. She was later named Sweden head coach, and is expected to remain in the position through the summer of 2006.
