She is one of four Team USA athletes who qualified to compete in her fifth Winter Olympics. The skeleton event combines strength and speed. Uhlaender has participated in five Winter Olympics. This makes her one of only a few women who have been able to win a medal in that sport. Although her quest to compete at her fifth Olympics was nearly derailed by the emergence of COVID, she is the only American woman to have competed in five sliding events at the Winter Olympics.
Mazdzer is American's only medalist in single luge
Alex Mazdzer was awarded a silver medal in PyeongChang. This is an unprecedented finish for an American man in single-luge at the Olympic Games. Although Mazdzer wasn't expected to win a medal at PyeongChang this year, his performance was the best in USA Luge history. While he did not claim to have the favorite, he is confident he will be able to run four clean runs in PyeongChang. Mazdzer relied on the mental side of his brain to win medals for four years.
Shiffrin is a top female slalom skier
Despite being young and performing poorly in the Super-G competition, Mikaela shiffrin is already a well-known name in the sport. Shiffrin won the first round against Slovakia and finished her first slalom race. However, she fell short of the podium in the next two races against Germany, Italy and Norway. She still finished all three races and congratulated the other athletes. In her Olympic debut she became the second female to compete at all six Alpine events. A feat she shared with Petra Vlhova of Czech Republic in 2018.

Chock and Bates have been competing together since 2011. Since 2011 when they met, they have been a winning couple. After competing at the Grand Prix Final, they finished sixth in 2017 World Championships. Chock was second, and Bates was first at U.S. Championships. They have also won the U.S. Championships 8 times in succession, in addition their World Championships results.
