Tina Estrada, Coach at San Jose State, and her women's soccer team have been on a roll. This article will discuss Estrada's career and the Spartans recent success. We also talk about the university's mental wellness resources for student-athletes.
Estrada's success
Hanson's pedigree is similar to Estrada, who was appointed assistant coach at San Jose State's women's soccer team in 2017. She was an All-American college soccer player, and was also a member of the U.S. under-17 national team. Estrada was a three time all-WCC forward at Santa Clara and played in four NCAA Tournaments. In 2015, Estrada was named NSCAA Assistant Coaching of the Year.
Estrada is originally from Fremont, Calif. but she now lives in Walnut Creek. Estrada was the National Assistant Coach of Year. She has coached Spartans to two NCAA Tournaments. Her teams have won five consecutive conference tournaments.

Recent success at SJSU
Many players are responsible for the recent success of SJSU women’s soccer. Most notably Dorthe Hoppius won the MVP award for the team, but she will not be back with the Spartans during the 2018 season. Jamilecxth Becerra, a sophomore, was also named Mountain West Newcomer-of-the Year. She scored seven goals, five of which were game-winning. Darriell Franklin was also named the MW defensive players of the year. He was also selected to the All-MW First Team.
New facilities have contributed to Spartans' recent success. Spartan Beach, Spartan Baseball Practice Facility, and Spartan Beach were two recent additions. The Spartans will also open next year their Spartan Athletics Center.
Career of Tina Estrada, Coach
Estrada has been acting as interim head coach for San Jose State's women's soccer program for the past two weeks. She was previously an Associate Head Coach and Spartans assistant for the past four years. She was named to the position on Feb. 1, replacing Lauren Hanson, who resigned after eight seasons. Hanson was the winningest school coach in history.
Estrada was an outstanding player at Santa Clara University and has been a great assistant and associate head coach for several programs. She has the potential to become one among the most exciting young head coaches for women's division one soccer. Estrada has a strong teaching ability, is extremely communicative, and has excellent leadership skills.
