Every year, the WNBA holds a draft to pick new players for their teams. The draft draws players drawn from a pool of talented women's basketball players. 1997 saw the first WNBA Draft. Today, there are almost 60 teams. The draft is made up of a number of categories, including overall strength as well as speed and athleticism. There is also the possibility to get a new superstar for your team.
Shakira Austin
Expect the Lakers to be a serious contender this season, and Austin's selection will help them add depth at their center position. Austin is well-suited to play multiple positions and can be trusted with veteran depth and players. Austin excels outside of the basket and will enjoy Delle Donne's presence. She is also a skilled defender, but the WNBA will put her to the test on both ends of the court.

Washington Mystics chose Shakira Texas with the No. She was the third overall pick in WNBA Draft. She is sixth Ole Miss Product to be drafted into the WNBA. Austin was a Ole Miss Golden Eagles member for two seasons. She earned first team All-SEC honors while playing for the team and helped it reach its first NCAA tournament appearance.
Mya Hollingshed
Mya Hollingshed was on the Pre-Woden Award Watch List, but despite her impressive stats, she has never played basketball. Her family includes athletes. Her grandfather was drafted in round two by the Washington Bullets, 1978. Her father was a Grambling basketball player. Hollingshed enjoyed soccer her senior year and junior year, but her mother thought it was too competitive.
Although the Las Vegas Aces considered her as a wing-player, they decided against it. They did not want to take any chance on her being available at Number. 11 or later. Nevertheless, Hollingshed isn't likely to get passed up, and she'll still have a shot. It's possible that Hollingshed's WNBA career will start in the near future.
Nyara Sabally
On Monday, Nyara Sabally, a big man from New York was selected by the New York Liberty in the fifth round. Sabally was injured in the knee and cannot play this season. Sika Kone was also chosen by the team as No. She was also the No. 29 pick after she had surgery in March on her right leg. Sabally was a top pick because of her size, but her knee issues have made her a risky pick.

Apart from being the fifth overall draft pick, Sabally is also the sister of Oregon's star Satou Sabally who plays for Dallas Wings. Although she has not yet been drafted into the WNBA, her performance for the Ducks has been outstanding. In 2020, she and her sister were drafted together. This was their first time in the draft since Chiney Ogwumike (2008). Sabally may prove to be as good as her sister.
