Maya Moore was a member of the Georgia Metros 16U Nike Travel Team, 2005 and 2006. Her team was 73-6 that year, and she won MVP honors. The team won four National Championships. Morgan Toles, D'Andra Moss, and other young basketball players were among her teammates. She also played for the University of Connecticut women’s basketball team.

Maya Moore was one the four Minnesotans who participated in the 2012 U.S. Women’s Olympic Basketball Team. She was the second person selected for the team and helped the United States win a gold medal in 2012. In eight games, the U.S. women's basketball won six gold medals, two of which were in London.

Maya Moore has made it clear that she will be leaving the WNBA court for this season. The 25-year old last played for Minnesota Lynx back in 2018. She stated in February that she would take some time off to fulfill her ministry goals and focus on her family. During this time, Moore has also been working to free Jonathan Irons from prison for the crimes he committed at the age of 16.
Jonathan Irons Moore's spouse was convicted for a burglary, shooting and other charges in 2007.
Moore met Irons at her Missouri godparents. His great-uncle introduced him to the rest. Irons, then 16, was convicted of burglary and shooting in the house of a white male. The homeowner, Stanley Stotler, recognized Irons as the perpetrator. He was convicted of the crime by the jury and sentenced to imprisonment.
Moore proposed and Irons was born the night he got free.
Moore proposed to Irons on the night a judge overturned his conviction for aggravated assault. Irons' conviction was overturned after the judge cited issues in the investigation. They are now engaged and will start a foundation to assist wrongfully convicted people. Moore plans to return to basketball in the spring.

Maya Moore and Jonathan Irons have just announced the birth their first child. The baby boy was born in February 2022. Following Jonathan's release from prison, they were married in 2020. It is unknown if the couple are still together. Jonathan and Maya were in prison together, where they formed a close friendship.
