Maya Moore played for the Georgia Metros 16U Nike Travel Team in 2005 and 2006. Her team finished 73-6 that year and she was awarded MVP. The team won four National Championships. She played with other young players who went on to play basketball at the college level, including Morgan Toles and D'Andra Moss. She also played for the University of Connecticut women’s basketball team.
Moore was a member of the 2012 U.S. Women’s Olympic Basketball Team

Maya Moore, 25, has announced her decision to not return to the WNBA Court this season. The 25-year-old last played for the Minnesota Lynx in 2018. She announced in February that she would be taking a break to follow her ministry dreams and focus on her family. During this time, Moore has also been working to free Jonathan Irons from prison for the crimes he committed at the age of 16.
Jonathan Irons, Moore's husband was convicted in 2007 of burglary and shooting.
Moore met Irons in Missouri while she was visiting her godparents. He introduced her to the rest. When Irons was 16 years old, he was convicted of a burglary and shooting at the home of a white man. The homeowner, Stanley Stotler, recognized Irons as the perpetrator. He was convicted of the crime by the jury and sentenced to imprisonment.
Moore proposed to Irons the night he was released
Moore proposed to Irons after the judge overturned his conviction of aggravated assault. Irons' conviction was overturned by the judge after he mentioned problems with the case investigation. The couple are engaged and intend to create a foundation for wrongfully convicted persons. Moore will be returning to basketball this spring.
Moore is having a baby boy in the company of Irons
Maya Moore recently announced the birth her first child together with Jonathan Irons. The baby boy was born February 20, 2022. After Jonathan was released from prison, the couple got married in 2020. It is unclear if the couple are still together. Jonathan and Maya were in prison together, where they formed a close friendship.
