She also played college soccer at William and Mary University and was named an All-American. Ellis was a player in her twenties but earned accolades as a coach.
In addition to her years as a coach, Ellis has extensive experience in sports management. She has held a variety of leadership positions, including the position of Development Director for the United States Soccer Federation. She also served as an assistant coach for the U.S. women's national team and coached women's youth teams. In 2012, Ellis was named interim head coach of the senior women's national team. She served as interim coach during two matches in 2014, and is licensed by the USSF Pro to coach.
