Varas' USMNT U20 squad features a mix of top MLS talent and European imports. All but one of Varas' U20 players have played before in the U20 league, while a few others are regular starters with MLS clubs. The squad still lacks a center forward.
Revelations Cup
The U.S. Men's National Team (USMNT) will kick off its Revelations Cup Tournament in Mexico on Wednesday. The tournament will be a 10-day event that features four U-20 national teams of world-class quality. The tournament is designed to bring sports fans closer to some of today's brightest players and to help rewrite sporting history.
Varas and the rest of his squad have had a terrible opening match in the Revelations Cup versus Brazil. Varas was only appointed in December. There were only a few sessions of training before the competition. The squad failed to score one goal. Varas assured that his players were up for the challenge and are trying to get better.
FIFA U-20 World Cup
The FIFA U-20 World Cup for male football players is an annual tournament. FIFA organizes the tournament and it was first held in Tunisia, in 1977. The tournament was previously called the FIFA World Youth Championship. It has become a worldwide phenomenon. By qualifying from their youth championships, teams can compete for a spot at the tournament. There are six groups. The top two teams from each group advance to the next stage. The remaining four teams will be eliminated.
Argentina is the winning team of the tournament with six victories. Their last title came in 2007, when they won the tournament in Canada. Others notable countries include Russia, England, Ukraine and Ukraine.
Olympic qualifying tournament under-23 players
Each four years, the Olympic qualifying tournament has been held for players under 23. The tournament is for players less than 23 years old, and it is separate from FIFA World Cup. Each nation is allowed three wild cards over the age limit. The United States failed to qualify for the tournament in four of its last four years. It has been defeated by El Salvador, Canada, Mexico, and Mexico. However, the United States did not have to forfeit any of its under-23 players because they were already playing for the senior national team.
Brazil, Mexico, Canada, and CONCACAF will be the opponents of the U23 team in the group stage. Costa Rica will face the U-23 team in their first group match on March 18. The knockout round between the top two teams will take place in the next stage of the group stage. The knockout round will see the two winners advance to the finals.
Team USA vs Honduras u20
As they attempt to qualify for Pre-World Cup qualification, the Hondurans intend to capitalize on their home advantage. The national team put in a solid performance on the group stage. They will be trying to maintain that success during the CONCACAF U-20 qualifiers rounds. The match will be played at the General Francisco Morazan Stadium also known as La Bombonerita.
Honduras won 2-1 against Panama in its last match. Marco Tulio Aceituno scored a brace in Honduras' 2-1 win over Panama. That match was won by the United States from beginning to end. The Hondurans want to continue their winning ways by eliminating their opponents.
