According to a recent Seton Hall Sports Poll sponsored by the Sharkey Institute and the Stillman School of Business, 91 percent of women think women should receive equal pay for playing soccer, while only 74 percent of men agree. Also, 79% believe equal pay should apply to professional sports while only 59% agree. While this is definitely a step in the right direction, it still needs to be a reality.

Sandra Bullock and other female athletes called for equal pay during the U.S. Women’s World Cup. Many men in sports are also being underpaid, even though they are not the only ones who are female. The Best Team Award was won by the US Women's National Team at the 2018 Women's World Cup. Bullock presented the award. Alex Morgan, who was awarded the Best Female Athlete award, is representing the team.
The United States Women's National Soccer Team took center stage at the 2019 ESPY Awards, where Bullock presented the Best Team Award to the team led by Megan Rapinoe, the Golden Boot Award winner of the FIFA Women's World Cup. Sandra Bullock wore monochrome black and accompanied Megan Rapinoe in a double-breasted jacket adorned with flapper-style flapper tassels.

It's still a long way before the United States women’s team earns the same amount as their male counterparts. Equal pay for women's soccer is an important goal in the United States and other countries, but there are some steps that can be taken to get there. Women currently earn 80 cents for every dollar a man makes, according to Cherita Ellens, CEO of Women Employed. Ellens says this is still a significant gap but is optimistic that women's teams will eventually attain equal pay for equal work. She hopes that players will support this effort to make it possible.
Equal pay is a subjective term. The women's side should have won the 2015 World Cup if the men won. But, it doesn't necessarily mean that women's teams shouldn't get the same rewards as the men. Women's team players are competing for more games then the men's. They have had to work much harder to keep up. The same is true of the prize money of World Cups. Not all players are called up to every camp. Who plays what depends on injury, coaching decisions and how many games each team plays.
U.S. Soccer
A historic agreement between the USSF (soccer unions) has resulted in equal pay for men and woman playing soccer. Both teams will receive equal share of World Cup prize money and pay. The agreement also stipulates that women and men will receive equal pay at non-World Cup tournaments. As long as they play the same amount of games, men and women will both earn the same amount at home and abroad.
In September, Cone, a former women's national team member, said he would not sign a contract with any team that did not offer equal prize money. The deal was reached Tuesday and the women’s union expressed support. Lawyers from the men’s union were present during negotiations. The women’s players association congratulated them on their victory in the fight against gender discrimination. Leaders of the women's football players' union stated that they would continue holding U.S. Soccer accountable.

The prize money in soccer has the largest pay gap. Men's teams compete for nearly $440 million in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, while women compete for just $30 million. Five female soccer stars have sued to demand equal pay. These soccer players claim that their salaries are four times less than their male counterparts. Equal pay for women in soccer is long overdue. But why is it still a problem?
There are many reasons that women and men earn different salaries. In order to survive, women have traditionally had to compete for wages with men. The difference in pay has been significant. USSF has not always been transparent about their salaries. Women on its team are no exception. This explains the recent PR blitz. A USSF spokesperson told Reuters that the organisation has a "strong dedication" to equal pay.
