Varas' USMNT 20 squad includes a mixture of top MLS talent as well as European imports. All but one player has played in an U20 setup before, and a number of others are regular starters for MLS clubs. However, the squad is lacking a central forward.
Revelations Cup
On Wednesday, the U.S. Men's National Team will begin its Revelations Cup Tournament Mexico. The tournament is a 10 day event involving four world class U-20 national teams. The tournament seeks to bring people closer to some the best players and help rewrite sport history.
Varas and his squad are coming off a poor showing in their opening game of the Revelations Cup against Brazil. Varas only joined the squad in December. The squad also had a few practice sessions before the competition. The squad did not register one goal. Varas assured that his players were up for the challenge and are trying to get better.
FIFA U-20 World Cup
The FIFA U-20 World Cup (for male players younger than 20 years old) is a biennial soccer tournament. FIFA organizes the tournament, which was held for the first time in Tunisia in 1977. It was previously known as the FIFA World Youth Championship, but has since become a world-renowned event. Qualifying from their youth championships will qualify teams for the tournament. The six groups are broken down into six categories. The first two teams from each category advance to the next stage. The remaining four teams are eliminated.
Argentina has won the tournament six times, making them the most successful country in its history. Their last title was in 2007 when they won the tournament at Canada. Other notable nations include Brazil, England, Ukraine, and Russia.
Olympic qualifying tournament under-23 players
The Olympic qualifying tournament is held every four year for players below 23 years old. The tournament is for players under 23 years old and is separate from the FIFA World Cup. Each nation has three wild card exceptions to the age limit. The United States has not qualified for the tournament in three of the four years since its inception, falling to El Salvador, Canada and Mexico. The United States did not forfeit any of its under23 players, as they were already playing with the senior team.
The U-23 team will be facing a CONCACAF team on March 18th. Costa Rica will play the first game in the group stage on March 18. The next group game will be against Costa Rica on March 18. The winners of the group stage will advance to the knockout round, where they will play each other.
Team USA vs Honduras u20
As they attempt to qualify for Pre-World Cup qualification, the Hondurans intend to capitalize on their home advantage. The national team performed well on the group stage. They will now be looking to replicate that performance in the CONCACAF U-20 qualification rounds. The match will take places at the General Francisco Morazan Stadium (also known as La Bombonerita).
Honduras defeated Panama 2-1 in the last game. Marco Tulio Aceituno scored a brace in Honduras' 2-1 win over Panama. However, the United States dominated that match, winning every point. The Hondurans hope to continue their winning ways, and take out their adversaries.
